The Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) Minister of Cooperatives and Rural Development H.E Jimmy Lemi Milla was shot dead this morning in his office in Juba.

Close sources at the Ministry revealed to Gurtong that the assailant identified as Amin, broke into the Minister’s official car, took a gun assigned to his security detail and went into the Ministers officer where he fired shots at him and his bodyguard.

In an exclusive interview with Gurtong, Member of Parliament in the National Assembly-Khartoum, Mr. Thomas Wani, further revealed that, the assassination may have been linked to domestic wrangles.

The attacker is said to be an in-law to the late Minister and had served as the Minister’s driver before his suspension without pay. This is speculated to have been the cause of dispute.

“They had some misunderstanding that Jimmy suspended him for two months and was demanding his payment”, Wani said.

The suspect is currently under police custody of the Public Security.

Before his appointment as the GoSS Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development, the late Minister had served in various positions under the National Congress Party and government.

Wani described the late Jimmy as a “patient, jolly, cooperative and simple man”. He said his death should not be linked to politics but rather should be associated to family affairs. “Lets associate it to family problems”, he said. Adding that; God gives and takes”.
