The Head of the United Nations Security council delegation, Samantha Power has said the Security Council is concerned about the humanitarian situation in South Sudan.

WAU, 06 August 2016 [Gurtong] – Upon her Sunday visit to Wau State Protection of civilian’s site at the UN camp, Samantha said the delegations’ visit aims at accessing the situation of those affected by the June wave of violence in Wau town and to find ground solutions to improve civilian’s protection.

“We will have a meeting with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir on such matters including the human right abuses committed on innocent civilians during Wau violence to be addressed,” she said.

The Internally Displaced Persons sheltering at the UN protection site in Wau expressed concerns over the security situation.

Most of them say they are not ready to return to their homes because no improvement has been seen yet.

“We hope that the Security Council’s visit to South Sudan would be a world warning to the South Sudan government and faction of rebel groups to clearly put aside their differences to work towards peace implementation and the deployment of regional protection forces in the region,” said an IDP woman at the UN camp in Wau.

She also said the regional forces should not only be deployed in the capital Juba but also in most affected States which include Wau town to protect the civilians.

A representative of the displaced said the visit by the UN delegation has restored hope for peace and stability in the area.
