Toronto man Fitzroy Allen charged for running over police officer

On Thursday, August 11, 2011, police arrested a man in connection with a dangerous driving investigation in the area of 1554 The Queensway.

It is alleged that:

– at 00:30 a.m., the accused was driving a silver Acura TL which was parked behind a building,

– the victim, a TPS officer, and his partner, both in plainclothes, approached the man’s car and identified themselves as police officers,

– the accused then accelerated his vehicle towards the police officer, striking him with his car,

– the police officer ended up on top of hood of the car and was driven a distance before he was thrown off.

Fitzroy Allen, 40, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Assault with weapon,
2) Dangerous operation causing bodily harm,
3) Failure to stop at scene of accident.

He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Friday, August 12, 2011, room 206, at 10 a.m.
