Spokesperson for the Canadian International Airshow has confirmed that emergency vehicles had to be called on to Pearson International Airport after landing gear of a small plane, partaking in a practice day for the Canadian International Airshow, collapsed on Friday. Spokesperson Colleen Swider confirmed that the plane was among those taking part in the show.

According to the statement issued by Swider, “the airshow aircraft was involved in a minor incident. There are no injuries. Both pilots are fine and out of the aircraft. Damage is being assessed.” Furthermore, Swider clarified that there were no interruptions to service at Pearson due to the incident and that the airshow is scheduled to go ahead as planned. Whereas, police has confirmed that there were no reports of any injury caused by the accident. Swider reassured that Friday is a full practice day for all the pilots and aircraft that will take part in the airshow this weekend. She stressed that “it’s basically the full show and gives them all an opportunity to go out and fly their performance during their practice day.”

Organizers make the planes taking part in the airshow fly both in and out of Pearson and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Although, Swider refrained from confirming what caused the failure of the landing gear, she underlined that safety is the top priority of the airshow. She mentioned that “safety is absolutely paramount,” and “that’s our motto and we live by it.”
