Premier Kathleen Wynne is anticipated to publicize written orders passed by her to each cabinet ministers, which are usually kept secret, as an effort to show that her Liberals are ramping up government transparency.

Sources claim that the letters will entail everything from Ms. Wynne’s plan for tackling climate change to her priorities for transit construction. The letters are expected to be released at a cabinet meeting in Sudbury on Thursday. Ms. Wynne is believed to have alleged that “we want to be a government that works for the people of this province – and with them,” adding that “it is of the utmost importance that we lead responsibly, act with integrity, manage spending wisely and are accountable for every action we take.” The decision is an attempt by Wynne to evade Liberals’ apparently secretive past practices, especially tinted after cancellation of two gas-fired power plants.

There is a separate letter addressed to an each minister, almost four to five pages long, which contains a list of priorities Ms. Wynne wants that minister to work on. Ms. Wynne’s office allegedly said that “there is a fair level of specificity because it’s about what the expectations the Premier has for that minister on achieving the goals of the government in their area of responsibility,” so “it will allow people on a regular basis to check in … and see exactly what progress is being made against the objectives that have been set across the government.”
