According to a blizzard warning issue by Environment Canada, parts of Newfoundland and Labrador are anticipated to encounter heavy snow and strong winds on Saturday. The warning cautioned residents that the blizzard conditions are expected to persist throughout southeastern Labrador until Saturday evening, and might spread to the mid coast by Sunday morning. The statement speculated a total of 15 to 30 centimeters of snow to fall by Sunday morning. The federal agency mentioned in the statement that “travel is expected to be extremely hazardous” with “visibility frequently near zero.”

This alert is one of numerous winter weather warnings issued for Atlantic Canada this weekend. Environment Canada also issued a warning for western part of New Brunswick, cautioning residents about a freezing rain and snow on Saturday. The statement warned that “precipitation will fall as snow over northern New Brunswick. Central and southern regions of the province will see a mix of rain and freezing rain before a change over to snow this afternoon.” It was anticipated that the region will face around 15 to 20 centimetres of snow in total, coupled with “brisk northwest winds.”

Whereas on the other hands, parts of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island are placed under wind warnings as the agency predicts they will receive gusts up to 100 kilometres per hour. The Environment Canada pointed out that the winds at those speeds can damage buildings and “loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.”
