On June 15th 2010, the Winnipeg Police Service released information regarding an 18 year old male victim that had been shot in the lower body in the area of Burrows Avenue and Andrews Street, at approximately 1:30 a.m. The victim was located by a patrolling police unit and he was conveyed to hospital where he received treatment. The youth suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.
On June 17th 2010, at approximately 4:00 a.m. the youth suspect attended to the area of the 400 block of Manitoba and allegedly fired a number of shots into a residence. At the time there were a number of individuals sleeping in the residence, however no one was injured. The youth immediately fled the area prior to police arrival.
On June 19th 2010, at approximately 2:20 p.m. the suspect was observed in the area of Pritchard Avenue and Powers Street to be in possession of a handgun. The Winnipeg Police Service was contacted and a large number of Uniform and Tactical Team members entered into an investigation. At approximately 4:45 p.m., this youth suspect was arrested in the area of the 500 block of Boyd Avenue.
Further investigation by members of the Major Crimes Unit resulted in a search warrant being executed and the seizure of firearms. The 15 year old male youth has been charged with the following offences:
– Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose X4 & Aggravated Assault
– Discharge Firearm with Intent to Wound, Maim, Disfigure
– Carry a Concealed Weapon X4
– Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime X2
– Failure to comply with sentence X2
– 11 other Firearms related charges
He had been detained in custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
