The Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani addressed the gathering on Monday at the event of Youm-e-shuhada and expressed that he supports continuation of democracy within the country as it is in the best interest of the development of the country and contributes towards a better welfare, provided that different institutions belonging to the country keep operating within the legal jurisdictions and constitutional limits.

He stressed on the elements of the constitution of Pakistan and said, it “clearly defined the responsibilities and functions of national institutions” and it is necessary for these institutions “to perform their duties with constitutional limits.” He also spoke on the current standing of the PM of Pakistan after being convicted for not opening graft cases against the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari. He said that the sole aim of the government was “to ensure the welfare, happiness and increased dignity of the people and the establishment of a balanced society where every person can get justice equally. This is the only way which can further strengthen Pakistan’s national security.”

Referring to the national security of the country, he said that despite giving up hundreds of human lives to protect the country from element of extremism within and from outside the country, Pakistan is still in a condition of “war”.
