The PGA Tour heads to Illinois this week for the John Deere Classic held at TPC Deere Run. Here, the three-time defending champion, Steve Stricker will attempt to become only the fifth player in the history of the Tour to win the same event in four consecutive years – something only four other people have done in the history of the game.
The John Deere Classic is also the last tune up before the third major of the season next week – the Open Championship. Due to happening just before the other major championships, this tournament has found it difficult to draw big names because most of them are not keen on playing 8 time zones away from England until Sunday and then having to hop a redeye to get to their jet-lagged practice rounds at Royal Lytham. The course itself is very score-able and it is likely to watch multiple players more than 20 strokes under par this weekend.
Notable golfers such as Kyle Stanley, Blake Adams, Charles Howell III and John Daly will play their first round on Thursday at the TPC Deere Run. Tiger Woods is among the star players who will not take part in the John Deere Classic this week.
Stricker will begin his quest for a four-peat on Thursday in a group with Kyle Stanley and Camilo Villegas. Zach Johnson, who finished in a tie for third at the 2011 John Deere Classic will play with Ted Potter Jr. and Nick Watney on Thursday.
