The grand finale of the 2012 FIM Endurance World Championship has come to an end with the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. Prior to the race, four teams hoped for the fame of the championship winner. Honda TT Legends, a team knitted indeed solely out of legendary riders hoped for their first endurance championship. There were also the almighty BMWs that carried the same kind of wishes as the Honda fellows did. Then, there were the Yamaha boys of the Yamaha France GMT 94 and in the end, the untouchable rulers of the endurance breed, the eleven-time endurance championship winners, the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team.

The racing started with no big surprises. Suzuki fought a battle for the race lead with Kawasaki riders for almost the whole 24 hours of the race and everyone else just followed. Suzuki did get over the finish line as the team that went the furthest, but the time penalty they were punished with kicked them to the second place, behind Kawasaki. Still, second place points were more than enough to put them on top of the championship chart for the season, twelfth time so far. What is even more incredible, this year’s title is the third in a row for them, and not for the first time either. From 2005 until 2008 they ruled the competition in the same manner they are doing it right now.

Then again, Suzuki winning the EWC is not some extra-extra-read-all-about-it news. They do it all the time so just mentioning it is enough. The true news following the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Endurance Championship in general is the internet broadcasting. Finally, people all over the world were able to follow their favorite masochist thing the way they always wanted to – all the way. Covering a 24-hour race is a mission impossible sans Tom Cruise for any TV station, so streaming online is the obvious way to go. Finally, we were given the opportunity. To the internet gods, a big thank you is surely due.
