India’s Independence Day celebrations at Yonge Dundas Square – August 9th

Come Celebrate India’s 62nd Independence day with thousands of South Asian Canadians on Sunday August 9th at Yonge Dundas Square from 9 am – 8pm. The day will begin with a flag hoisting ceremony by Consulate General of India Ms Preeti Saran and other dignitaries from federal, provincial and municipal government. Be part of the parade down Yonge Street celebrating and showcasing rich Indo Canadian culture through creatively decorated floats representing different regions of India. Floats will have rich landscape of India along with regional dances and cultural activities moving through downtown Toronto.
 
Activities will begin at 9:45 am at Yonge/Dundas Square. On this day Yonge Dundas Square will be converted into mini India with stalls serving great Indian cuisine, local handicraft, henna artists and great entertainment. There will be cultural programs throughout the day on the main stage and evening will cap off with a lively and entertaining concert by one of India’s most renowned and successful Singer Mr. Hans Raj Hans.
 
Mr. Hans Raj Hans will be the Parade marshal for this year. His singing career spans over 4 decades and in 2007 he was presented with one of India’s highest award “PADMASHREE AWARD” for his contribution to India music.
 
India’s Independence Day is presented by Panorama India who is celebrating its 10th year anniversary. Formed to promote Unity in Diversity, Panorama India is a not for profit organization that brings under its umbrella the various Indian cultural groups in Canada. Panorama India would like to invite all media and public to come join us in this great event.
