Jivin’ In Bebop: A Celebration of Big Band Bebop and Progressive Jazz
Marriott – LAX (Los Angeles, CA)
Spend Memorial Day weekend this year Jivin’ In Bebop. It’s a four-day all-star jazz fest saluting big-band music from 1945-1949, with a specific spotlight on the most progressive and innovative big-band arrangements of the period. The Los Angeles Jazz Institute event includes more than 26 concerts plus rare films and special presentations. Purchase daily passes and miss none of the fun, or opt for individual tickets, which are offered to several of the performances. Living legends play alongside the new greats in sets saluting Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Gene Krupa, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, among many others. The special Sunday Jazz Brunch features a “Four Brothers Reunion,” starring 12 saxophonists who played with several different eras of the Woody Herman Orchestra. Please see the event description for a concert schedule.
