Yorkville makes surprise comeback as TIFF party destination
Yorkville Ave. and its surrounding area are expected to be buzzing again during TIFF, despite the lack of screenings as the local theatre on Cumberland Street got closed down a few years ago.
Recently, new luxury hotels have gone up in the area. The Ritz-Carlton Toronto opened in 2011; the Shangri-La Hotel followed the year after and the Four Seasons Hotel has relocated to Yorkville Avenue and many of the stars will be staying locally.
TIFF opens for its 11-day run on Sept. 6. And it’s going to be buzzing for star spotters in the Yorkville area, said Martin McSkimming Owner/Partner of Hemingway’s Restaurant.
“People and stars are starting to want to be in Yorkville, in the past we have seen movie stars relaxing on our roof top patio, in fact Canadians respect their privacy,” says Mcskimming.
Many locals use the festival as a chance to catch a glimpse of the A-list actors and celebrities who descend on Toronto during the fest. If you’re looking to sneak a peek of the many famous faces, Yorkville maybe the place.
