Hudson Mainstage Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
At the age of 70, illiterate tenant farmer J.B. Murray experienced a religious vision and began to paint pictures and write in an invented language. Today, his work hangs in the American Folk Art Museum and the Smithsonian. Now, Murray’s incredible story comes to life in the new musical Visionary Man. Living in Glascock County, Georgia, without water or electricity, Murray surprised everyone in his tight-knit rural community when he began creating vivid abstract artworks using any materials he could find, from adding machine tape to televisions. Eventually, this enigmatic eccentric came to the attention of an international community of art collectors, museums and academics. Visionary Man celebrates the passion and vision of this American original.
