STANDARDIZING NATURE: TREES, WOOD, LUMBER

Susana Reisman

Susana Reisman’s latest exhibition combines photography with sculptural elements to explore the form and function of natural resources, specifically trees and their transition from wood to lumber. Staging and photographing what we so often neglect to see Reisman seeks to question and understand the reasoning and decision-making behind the ‘shape’ of things and is interested in the role such materials and their ‘standards’ play in our everyday lives. Economies and industries are built around these decisions and they ‘echo’ off the center as rings in the core of a tree. Those standards set the ‘tone’ for future generations.

The exhibition is accompanied by an essay by Mark A. Cheetham
