The February salon will give you the opportunity to chat with the National Ballet of Canada’s ballet master Lindsay Fischer. A former Principal Dancer, Lindsay Fischer is now the Artistic Director of YOU dance, the National Ballet’s outreach programme, in addition to his duties as ballet master. This month’s salon will examine three classic works: Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. The National Ballet of Canada has interpreted these fairytales to make them applicable to a modern era. Can you think of fairytales that have strong female characters and honest love stories? Maybe not, but the National Ballet of Canada can. Subtle and brilliant, they have staged fairytales that even the staunchest feminist could love. In a time where women are constantly re-negotiating their roles and re-examining their identities, maybe fairytales can be a tool of empowerment after all. As always, food and drinks are included with the purchase of a ticket. You can also take advantage of our private access to the Dignam Gallery to explore February’s exhibitions of paintings and sculptures.
