Heroine, Kareena Kapoor’s much-awaited film of the year, has eventually seen the daylight today. The film was well in news and has been putting Kareena on the bigger headlines. Kareena Kapoor is already the top notch Bollywood actress and with the success (yes, the movie will certainly be successful) of this flick, she will leave all the leading babes of the fraternity behind. She gave her utmost best to the film and ofcourse Kareena is looking forward to lucrative outcome from the enterprise.
Madhur Bhandarkar, the maverick filmmaker, is famous for bringing up the subjects on screen which are different and catchy. All of his past efforts were acknowledged and appreciated a lot by the critics, masses and the entertainment fraternity. Pick any of his films – Chandni Bar, Page 3, Corporate, Traffic Signal, Fashion and now Heroine – all are attention-grabbing and brilliantly made. The award-winning director has the mastery and adroit skills to make women-centric movies.
His movies Page 3, Fashion and Heroine all seem common since they all reveal the inner and dark glittery world of entertainment and movies but ofcourse each film carries different subject. Heroine was being related to Bhandarkar’s Fashion but it is different from many points as it focuses on movie world whereas Fashion talked about fashion and modeling industry.
Madhur makes the viewer tread along with him to watch the sparkles of the industry, the faces of the stars behind the masks, the dark side of the ritzy industry and everything keeps happening inside the film fraternity. He does all with super conviction and remarkability as he himself is from the same industry.
Heroine tells the story of the leading Bollywood actress’s high and low of her career. And along with her saga, the flick reveals what happens inside the filmdom – if you have watched Madhur’s previous movies – Page 3 and Fashion, you may guess what Heroine can endow you on celluloid.
Mahi Arora (Kareena Kapoor) is the top notch Bollywood actress. She starts losing her shine and worth due to her personal life and erratic mood swings. Although she is the central attraction of the film industry and everyone wants to work with her, she is more interested in tying the nuptial knot with her boyfriend superstar Aryan Khanna (Arjun Rampal) who seems to be no committal towards Mahi. This leads to her downfall in career.
The story is really interesting though it cannot be termed ‘novel’, as it has been borrowed from real life. The script has marvelously and brilliantly been penned. Brownie points to all the writers who have made it happen. Madhur Bhandarkar along with other screenplay writers – Anuradha Tiwari and Manoj Tyagi have scribbled down the script with additional inputs by Niranjan Iyengar. The screenplay is really compelling.
Madhur Bhandarkar has executed the screenplay luminously on screen. The viewer does not lose attention for a moment (though there are few of the tracks which seem boring) in the film. Madhur should be ready to fetch the awards for this remarkable work. Cinematography is eye-pleasing and catchy. Editing is good. Music is superlative. Halkat Jawani is the best pick of the lot. Dialogues are worthwhile. Manish Malhotra impresses with the styling and costumes.
Final Verdict by the Critic:
Heroine is a stylishly, creatively and brilliantly made film by Madhur Bhandarkar. Watch it to enjoy Kareena Kapoor’s marvelous performance and the inner world of the film industry.
