In 2008 Sawera was designed to enhance the lives of women by addressing issues that directly affects their health, mind and spirit. Sawera is a non-profit organization dedicated to empower people to grow and realize their full potential. Empowered individuals learn to create their on destinies.

Sawera is a Hindi word which means ‘morning’ in English. Hence, Sawera symbolizes a bright new beginning. In the past, the only purpose for the female gender was to complete family chores and bear children. Fortunately, the perspective on females has changed in many cultures around the world. Women are now in the industrial and political field which were areas designated only for men in the past history.

WHO ARE WE?

Sawera is a group of women of various ethnicity and race who come together to empower women. We get together once in a month to share our comments, stories and input on various topics and discussions (for the empowerment of women). Every member has a fair chance to express her views, comments and concerns during the discussion forum.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide a support system and empower women. Sawera aims to inspire women with the courage to break free from the chains of limiting belief patterns and societal or religious conditioning that have traditionally kept women suppressed and unable to see their true beauty and power. It should be known that Sawera is not a feminist group. Our mission does not end with support for women only. (We hold fundraisers to help raise money for other charities and organizations.)

WHAT DO WE DO?

As a group, we meet once a month and carry on a discussion forum. Apart from discussion forums, we also have

– fundraisers
– meditation
– networking
– mentoring/ tutoring
– Barbecues, Dinner outings

PAST EVENTS

During March 2008, Sawera held a successful fundraiser, High Tea, for the Canadian Cancer Society and raised $6000.00. This money was allocated for the research being conducted on ovarian cancer.  Click HERE to read the full article.
