Acharya Sri Khadi MadamaEpisode – 44

Gracie and her mother ate the fastest meal they had ever eaten in a long time so that they could get dressed for the Ballet. They both decided to wear pink dresses to match their new lipsticks, so it was a real mother-daughter event. When they arrived at the theatre, there was a long line of people waiting to get in and the theatre manager came out to announce that there would be a twenty minute delay before the performance could begin. But that if the patrons would just be patient and get their refreshments the show would start as soon as possible. The line began to move and it wasn’t all that long before Gracie and her mother were seated. They were seated in the two best seats in the house. Front Row Center. And, because Gracie had won the tickets, which of course she didn’t, but that was the official story, there was a pink satin ribbon across both seats that said in gold glitter, “Reserved”. Excitedly, Gracie’s mother carefully removed the ribbon and rolled it up to put into her purse for later to return it to the management. They sat down and were settled in when Gracie told her mother that she would like to treat her to some chocolates for the performance. And, it is here where our story really takes a turn. For it was when Gracie went out to the concession stand that the most extraordinary thing occurred.

The ballet director in a frenzy came out to speak with the theatre manager. He looked completely hysterical, yet trying not to be heard, when all of a sudden he looked away for a moment and saw Gracie standing in line. Immediately, he approached her and with an angry voice reproached her by saying, “Where on Earth have you been. What is the meaning of you not showing up to your dressing room and being out here? The show is about to start and you have been no where to be found. And, neither is your understudy. Do you have any idea of how horrible this is? How could you be so irresponsible? Gracie, looked up at him and tried to explain. He was then pulling Gracie by the elbow and whispering in her ear that she’d better come with him. “Please sir, I am not who you think I am. My name is Gracie. I am here to watch the Ballet. I am not one of your dancers.” “Not one of my dancers?” he replied in a very aggitated voice. You are the Prima Ballerina. You ARE the show. Now get in there and get on your costume and hurry up, the whole audience is waiting for you.”

Gracie found herself inside the Prima Ballerina’s dressing room, wondering what her mother would think when she didn’t bring back the chocolates, or bring back herself for that matter. But, just then, as reason and good things conjoin, Musika appeared. He scampered up her leg and onto her shoulder and then onto the top of her head, hanging down in front of her eyes upside down, his tail wound around a lock of her hair so he wouldn’t fall off. “Gracie, this is your moment. You can do this. They think you are the Prima Ballerina. Now, get on the costume and take yourself through the Rabbit Pose and remember what Samsanga Raja said to you. A Rabbit Dances around his opponent. And tonight the opponent is the Ballet itself. Do your Rabbit Pose, then kiss the tops of your ballet shoes with some of your Pink Bling lipstick and watch what happens. Don’t worry. Trust the Divine Ones. They know what they are doing. Now hurry and do as I have said.”
