EES To Have New Livestock Marketing Centre

The County Commissioner, Mr. Lokai Iko Loteyo explained to Gurtong that the Food and Agricultural Research Management (FARM) -Africa, an international organization currently based in Greater Kapoeta, funded the construction worth over SSP 30,000 that enabled the County authority to contract Land Mark Limited Construction Company to undertake the construction work. 
  
He disclosed that the work commenced in mid October 2011. 
  
Lokai told Gurtong that the facility’s main objective is to help the County to generate income through cattle marketing; targeting various livestock traders. The traders are expected to use the facility on hire basis by paying required market fees to the County authorities.  

The construction company’s manager, Mr. Paul Oleyo revealed that the actual construction of the main building and the main fence is already complete except three key components such as loading facility, borehole and slaughter house.

He added that the entire work would have ended early this month but due to the unexpected financial delays and some logistical arrangements the project will delay. However, Oleyo expressed his confidence that the construction be complete soon.

He confirmed that they had already constructed the finance; clerk and book keeper offices and the rate collector’s workplace to enable them operate effectively. 
  
The Commissioner disclosed that brokers who usually evade paying for livestock marketing taxes and are fond of sneaking with their animals after buying them from locals within the County, to Torit via Kapoeta South County in order to double the selling prices, shall now find it hard to dodge the rate collection officials since strategic measures have been put in place to control them.
