Krystin Lavelle’s initial Christmas gift was truly the first of its kind. It didn’t come wrapped or tied with a bow but was a notebook and signed by a pen. This autograph was from the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama. Krystin Lavelle, 10, spotted the American President at the Marine Corps gym near Honolulu on Christmas Eve.

Krystin was visiting the gym with her uncle and brother and was surprised to see the President who is currently vacationing in Hawai. She asked the President to sign her journal and the President could not say no. ‘He said he’d tell her that he picked them,’ said Lavelle. The autograph said, ‘To Krystin- Dream big dreams!’ and was ended with the President’s signature at the bottom. Lavelle gave a flower to the President in return which the President promised to pass on to the first lady, Michelle Obama.

Barack Obama and Michelle Obama also released their holiday greeting this Wednesday which highlighted that many of the American troops will be returning home for the holidays as United States overseas conflicts are drawing down. ‘For many of our troops and newest veterans, this might be the first time in years that they’ve been with their family on Christmas.’said Obama. ‘In fact, with the Iraq War over and the transition in Afghanistan, fewer of our men and women in uniform are deployed in harm’s way than at anytime in the last decade.’
