Oxytocin is a powerful hormone that is excreted from pituitary glands. This hormone acts as a neuromodulator between in the brain. The level of oxytocin is greatly stimulated when we hug or kiss a loved one. Oxytocin plays role in sexual reproduction and primarily drives up during sex, breastfeeding and birth. It facilitates trust and allows people to form strong pairing bonds. Therefore oxytocin is sometimes referred to as the love hormone. The new study indicates that the conditions like schizophrenia, autism and addiction which are stimulated by conflicts in relationship can be treated with the assistance of oxytocin the love hormone.  According to study, the administration of oxytocin increases trust, empathy and social bonding. Oxytocin promotes bonding pattern also provoke the desire of further contact with the individuals inciting its release.

Oxytocin is a neuropeptide that plays important role in strengthening the bonds. Oxytocin stimulates bonds between father and children when father cuddle up with his kids. A new research investigates that intranasal administration of oxytocin is helpful in enhancing empathy, trust and social reciprocity. In a study, researchers found that giving oxytocin to the fathers increases parental engagement, behavioral and physiological processes that are really very supportive for their relationship with their kids and also improves their parenting. According to this new study, it is also found that infants also have similar effects like their fathers after toxin administration.

A research was conducted that has been published in the current issue of biological psychiatry. In this study, thirty five fathers and their five months old infants were examined twice. Fathers and infants were observed twice once after giving them oxytocin and secondly after placebo administration. Fathers were given nasal mist in a separate room while infants were cared for in another room. Fathers and infants were brought closer after forty minutes and father engaged in face to face play with their infants. After and before drug administration, salivary oxytocin level was measured in both father and infant. It was founded that after receiving oxytocin, the salivary oxytocin of the father dramatically rose up to ten folds and similar increase was observed in infants. Father was more responsive towards their infants after oxytocin administration and father showed a more loving expression towards his baby. Their babies also tended to respond more to their dads who had given oxytocin and the social behavior and social gaze of infants was also increased. The higher level of oxytocin in infants is due to the rising level of oxytocin occurring in their fathers. In addition, respiratory sinus arrhythmia was also increased in both child and parent. Respiratory sinus arrhythmia is a measure that indexes better autonomic readiness for social engagement.

Oxytocin therefore acts as a bridge between a positive relationship of a dad and infant. It plays important role in treating stressful conditions. The infants who produce more of the oxytocin through positive connections with their fathers in the early stages of their lives may be better prepared to face and find solutions in stressful conditions later in life. And hopefully, it will lead to combat range of diseases. Oxytocin levels are positively correlated with the amount of affection the father displays towards the child.
