A 25-year-old woman has been arrested on Sunday by the Singaporean Police, who dubbed ‘Sticker Lady’ and allegedly painted the words “My Grandfather Road” on the public property of Singapore.

In a statement given by the police on Tuesday, it was said that as vandalism such as Graffiti is very rare in Singapore, the vandal would be dealt with severely and she would face a fine or jail term.

The arrest of the young artist has renewed an old debate on graffiti on if it is an Art or vandalism.

She could be fined up to S$2000 if she would be convicted of vandalism, and could be jailed up to three years. However, the law of Singapore excuses women and men of age 50 or above from being caned, therefore she would not at least be caned.

In all the past cases, American teen Michael Fay was involved in vandalism and he was caned in 1994. But the female artist was much different from Michael Fay and Oliver Fricker. The woman has been doing street art which could be found on the public space that has gone viral on social networks and viewed by thousands of Internet users.

The police had not identified the woman and her nationality as her paintings and stickers involved hidden messages written mostly in the local English dialect. But as the woman behind pasting the peculiar stickers on the traffic lights all over the island and painting “My Grandfather Road” on some public roads was believed to be Ms. Samantha Lo who was the founder of online magazine RCGNTN.

Since her arrest, a movement by her supporters raised overnight. So the police released her on the bail for further investigations.
