The National Environment Agency (NEA) is expected to carry out an ‘intensive pest control treatment’ at Hotpot Culture where a rat carcass was founded in one of the buffet dishes that was served at the restaurant.

The restaurant is located at Marina Square where two more rats have been caught after it was suspended at a diner’s complaint. Today Online news portal further informed that during NEA’s investigations, it found some dried rat droppings on the floor of the restaurant’s storeroom and in the kitchen’s false ceiling. It further added that a gap was found in the wall of the storeroom near the ceiling, and another one in the false ceiling. The NEA said that these could be the possible points from where the rats gained access to the kitchen.

NEA has also ordered Hotpot Culture to seal up all other potential entry points for rats, and ensure that proper housekeeping, food storage and waste management practices are followed. “Operators of food establishments have a duty to ensure their premises are clean and free from pests by putting in place a good cleaning regime and an effective pest control programme,” NEA said. The online newspaper further advised the members of the public to report such incidents by calling NEA’s 24-hour Contact Centre at 1800-CALL-NEA (1800-2255-632).
