The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has re-assigned goaltender Andrew Hammond to its American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
Hammond, 26, was on recall from the B-Sens for the second time this season. Upon his first recall, he made his NHL debut in relief of Robin Lehner stopping each of the 11 shots he faced in Ottawa’s 6-1 loss to Detroit on Feb. 27. He also served as back-up to Lehner for both of the club’s two most recent games since being recalled on March 21. He is tied for 10th among American Hockey League goaltenders with 20 wins this season and has a record of 20-15-3, in addition to a 2.86 goals-against-average and a .907 save percentage through 39 appearances as a rookie with the B-Sens this season.
A native of Surrey, B.C., Hammond recorded 30 wins and seven shutouts over four collegiate seasons with Bowling Green State University prior to turning professional. In his final season with the Falcons, he recorded a 2.47 goals-against-average and a .917 save percentage while helping his team to the CCHA semifinals.
Ottawa returns to action when the club visits the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at 7:30 p.m.
