Pakistan and Australia will play their first One-Day International in UAE, with the first of the 3-match ODI series starting today, August 28, 2012, at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Both the sides are eager to get in the form after poor performances in their previous outings.
The temperatures will be high with the humid weather, and Pakistan will be more used to the conditions than the Australians. This will be the first time that a series will see both innings played under moonlight, with play starting at 6pm local time. The matches will carry on into the early hours of the next morning, thus potentially messing up the players’ body clocks.
Both teams are using this series, and the T20Is that follow, as a warm-up for the World Twenty20, and Australia don’t even have their head coach Mickey Arthur around, as he is focused on that tournament. The sides will be eager to sort out their line-ups, and will probably experiment here and there, especially if the heat plays as big a part as expected. The probable Australian line up will include: David Warner, Matthew Wade (wicketkeeper), Michael Clarke (captain), David Hussey, Michael Hussey, George Bailey, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Johnson, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc.
Pakistan went down to Sri Lanka 3-1 in a five-match ODI series, Australia have also slipped in the world rankings after a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of England. However, a fresh start is what both teams are looking for with Pakistan relying on their familiarity in UAE conditions to give them an edge over the former world champions. The probable Pakistani squad will include: Nasir Jamshed, Mohammad Hafeez, Azhar Ali, Umar Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq, Asad Shafiq, Kamran Akmal, Afridi, Saeed Ajmal, Sohail Tanvir, Abdur Rehman.
