‘Caps receive club record multi-million dollar transfer fee

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club has transferred striker Camilo Sanvezzo to Mexico’s Liga MX side Queretaro Fútbol Club for a multi-million dollar fee. Per club and league policies, detailed terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We have made the decision to part ways with Camilo Sanvezzo. In doing so, we were able to negotiate a club record transfer fee that will give us additional flexibility as we continue to build our club for the upcoming season and beyond,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson.

“We are pleased to report that we’ve come to an agreement with Camilo Sanvezzo and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. On behalf of our club, we sincerely regret our misunderstanding in regards to Camilo’s contract earlier in the process,” said Adolfo Rí os, Queretaro FC president.

Camilo, 25, joined Whitecaps FC on a preseason trial prior to the start of the club’s inaugural Major League Soccer campaign and officially signed with the club on March 17, 2011. The Brazilian made a total of 92 MLS regular season appearances with Whitecaps FC, recording 39 goals and registering 16 assists during that period.

Prior to his arrival in Vancouver, Camilo had spells with Oeste Paulista Esporte Club and Sport Club Corinthians in his native Brazil, Qormi FC in Malta, and Gyeongnam FC in South Korea.
