Almost five years after the suspected fake encounter of Dara Singh by Rajasthan police, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested four cops on charges of killing the criminal. They were part of an 11-member team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) involved in the encounter on the outskirts of Jaipur on October 23, 2006.

The arrest comes shortly after the SC rapped the agency for slow pace of investigation in the case.CBI sources said those who are arrested include inspector Nisar Ahemad, sub-inspector Rajesh, sub-inspector Satyanarayan Godara and assistant sub-inspector Surendra Singh.

According to Sources, “The four were called for questioning at CBI’s office in Ashok Nagar area in Jaipur on Thursday and Friday, after which the agency took them into supervision. They will be produced in a court on Saturday.”

After the encounter in 2006, Singh’s wife Sushila Devi lodged an FIR with Mansarovar police station under Sections 307, 332, 353 of the IPC and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act against the team of Rajasthan police. ADG A K Jain and IG a Ponnuchami are also among the accused. The agency suspects involvement of a former BJP minister as well.
