Burnaby domestic dispute results in murder of woman

On Monday August 8, 2011 at 6:30 pm Burnaby RCMP responded to several 911 calls regarding a stabbing in the 6700 block of Elwell St. Uniformed officers attended and immediately located a 45 year old woman laying on the roadway suffering from multiple lacerations and stab wounds. Officers immediately began CPR. BC Ambulance Service attended and transported the victim to a local area hospital where she died several hours later.The victim resided in the 6800 block of Elwell St.

Initial investigation at the scene by the Burnaby RCMP identified several witnesses at the scene which resulted in the arrest of the victims 24 year old son who currently remains in custody.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the investigation and is supported by the Burnaby RCMP Serious Crime Section and Uniform Patrol along with the Lower Mainland District Integrated Forensic Identification Section and Integrated Police Dog Services. Investigators will be at the scene for the next 24-48 hours.

"This homicide appears to be the direct result of a domestic dispute which sadly was witnessed by many in the neighbouhood" says Sgt Peter Thiessen of the Lower Mainland District Regional Police Service / IHIT.

"This is an example of how volatile domestic disputes can be and the impact it can have on all those involved. This has impacted and changed a family forever and affected a neighbourhood" says Sgt Thiessen.
