West Bengal government optimistic about flood situation

Kolkata: The West Bengal government is reacting a bit optimistic, about the floods in the southern part of the state. Samar Ghosh, the chief secretary of MeT department, that there are more possibilities of thundershowers over the Gangetic areas within few days. But its effect on the state is maximum. If there is no major rainfall in the next days, then the threat of flood will be reduced.

The irrigation minister Manas Bhuiya said that, the Damodar Valley Corporation has reduced the quantum of water discharge to 95,000 cusecs from the estimated 1,05,000 cusecs. Similarly, from the Durgapur barrage the water depletion has been reduced to 1, 37,000 cusecs from the estimated 1, 47,000 cusecs of water. Release from the Kangsabati barrage has also been reduced to 30,000 cusecs from the estimated 40,000 cusecs.

With the quantum of discharges from the DVC & Durgapur, the state government is saying that they are having necessary measure against any kind of bad situations if comes in the state. Repair work in the holes in the embankments is going on in Udaynarayanpur block of Howrah district. It has been undertaken by the officials of the irrigation department, Bhuiya confirmed. Meanwhile, the district magistrates of Howrah, Hoogly, East Midnapore & Burdwan that at any moment extra water may get discharged from the DVC & Durgapur barrage.

Today, after a review meeting by Manas Bhuiya, the district magistrates of East & West Midnapore are totally alert because right now they are facing the flood threat. And in future if the water will be released from the river then they will get affect more.
