President Barack Obama’s much fancied jobs bill was rejected y the U.S Senate as it fell short of the 60 votes required to proceed ahead with the plan he wished-for to revitalize the wavering economy.
Two democrats joined hands with the Republican minority to block the plan in a test vote. The vote tally on Tuesday was 50-49, canceling the measure in its current form. Voting was completed in the evening as the roll call remained open to let Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a New Hampshire Democrat, return to Washington to vote for the plan.
The broad legislation includes slicing in payroll taxes for workers and employers and provides new funding for roads, bridges and other infrastructure. Parts of it could still be recovered if there is enough support for specific requirements.
According to Mitch McConnel Senate Minority Leader, The bill is a “Lousy Idea” and has a striking similarity to the $825 Billion Stimulus in 2009, which according to him failed to work.
He said “If voting against another stimulus is the only way we can get Democrats in Washington to finally abandon this failed approach to job creation, then so be it,”
