Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae does not plan on ruling out a run for the top job of the Liberal party as he gears up for the upcoming biennial convention.

Rae said: “I’m just doing my job right now as interim leader and I really think I have to focus on that. Certainly, no other decisions are being made by me and I don’t think frankly by anyone else.”

After leading the Canadian politics for years, Liberals were trampled by the Tories and New Democrats in the May election by reducing their seat count in the House of Commons to 35.

“Obviously, we took a beating in the last election, we got less than 20 per cent of the vote which is a historic for the party, but that was one election, you have got to look at that in perspective,” Rae said.

According to Rae, a number of Canadians support the party on issues it represents and has accomplished in the past.

He said: “We’ve got a lot of work to do to regain the confidence of Canadians in all parts of the country, but I think we’re making some real progress. I think people recognize that the party is coming together really well.”
