The South Sudan National Assembly, (SSNA) early last week approved new Committee Chairpersons and their Deputies. This development came after finalization on the new Conduct of Business of the Assembly.
The selection of the chairpersons was carried out by the State caucuses and later reviewed by the national caucus approved 18 chairpersons and deputies with women holding 30% surpassing the 25% women power sharing constitutional requirement.
House Speaker James Wani Igga thanked Assembly members for endorsing the names with acclamation.
However, three positions; a Chairperson and two deputies were only awarded to the opposition popularly known in the Assembly as “minority group.”
The independent group of “MPs” who have currently taken 7 seats in the August House neither got any position as the business code of conduct has no room for any MP who does not belong to any political party.
Mary Kiden Kimbo one of the independent MPs in the Assembly who is also an ex-National Minister of Gender stormed the August House of violating the transitional constitution.
Kiden pointed out that, according to the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan, the former Committee Chairpersons are supposed to continue serving during the transitional period just as the former MPs continue to serve.
