Armstrong Theatre at Torrance Cultural Arts Center (Torrance, CA)

The San Francisco Opera Cinema Series brings Puccini’s story of love and loss in 19th-century Paris to the big screen at Torrance Cultural Arts Center. Set in a bohemian apartment in Paris’s Latin Quarter, the poet Rodolfo and the painter Marcello are drawn into a tangle of love and jealousy after the frail Mimi, seeking help, knocks on their door on Christmas Eve. The outstanding cast is headed by superstar Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu as the ill-fated Mimi and by Polish tenor Piotr Beczala as her lover, the poet Rodolfo. This performance was recorded in the fall of 2008 at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco.
