Though the fashion and barb-filled dialogue of 1930s comedy Private Lives reveal it to be a play of a different time, the easily-recognizable characters and familiar romantic folly make it seem a creation of modern day. We see the same male-female tug-of-war on our TV and movie screens today, but rarely done with such wit and fun. Divorced couple Amanda and Elyot have both remarried and are honeymooning in France — at the same hotel. Upon discovering each other on a shared terrace outside what turns out to be their adjoining rooms, they begin to rethink their new marriages and rekindle their old passion. The couple flees to Paris, where love quickly leads to a familiar hatred, and bickering ensues.
