The poor drainage in Bor has immensely contributed to the sorry state as the poor infrastructure has given in to the ravaging deluge.
“Bor town has no proper drainage system to allow water to flow into River Nile whenever floods occur. The high cost of fuel has slowed down proper development of infrastructure, hence the poor state of roads and drainage systems”, the Bor Town Clerk Deng Akuei told the media.
“The flood assessment reports received by my office show that the floods have affected most parts of this state and there is an urgent need to mitigate the situation before it gets out of hand”, he said.
Akuei revealed that the state government plans to construct roads and put in place proper drainage systems in Bor town to minimise flooding.
He also said awareness creation amongst local communities is paramount in mitigating floods.
“We need to enlighten communities to enable them get involved in digging of private drainages to help in addressing the recurrent flooding. We will also construct dykes to control floods in areas near River Nile such Panliet, Malou and Achiengdiir”, said Akuei.
As a result of the flooding, children in Bor town are having a field day collecting fish swept away by the floods in the streets.
