Location: St. Lawrence Hall 3rd Floor Great Hall
Students of Opera Ateliers School of Atelier Ballet will present a special performance called Dance Through Time as part of Toronto’s Doors Open event. The public is invited to join us for this free event, which will feature students in period costume performing historical dances ranging from Renaissance to Baroque, plus 19th Century Waltzes, Mazurkas, Tarantellas and excerpts from the Romantic ballet. Opera Ateliers Co-artistic Director Marshall Pynkoski will be on hand to provide educational and entertaining commentary. Performances will take place in the Great Hall on the third floor of St. Lawrence Hall, 157 King Street East, an authentically reproduced room featuring a huge gas-lit chandelier, an elaborate ornamental plaster ceiling, red plush furnishings and fine paintings. Built in 1850 to be Torontos public meeting space, the Hall was the centre of Torontos cultural and social life for decades. After years of neglect, it was restored in 1967 as a centennial project and is now home to the administrative offices and dance school of Opera Atelier.
