Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Segerstrom Hall (Costa Mesa, CA)

The musical that rocked Broadway is making its way across the country with a stop in Costa Mesa at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Inspired by actual events, Memphis immortalizes ’50s DJ Huey Calhoun, the man who first spun the music of black and white musicians together on American radio. Calhoun (a white man) falls in love with a black club singer at a time when racial tensions are high. He then sets out on a mission to unite the country through music — an endeavor captured perfectly by a Tony-winning original score, with music by Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan. This nationally touring hit is directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley (Xanadu) and written by Joe DiPietro, author of I Love You, ,You’re Perfect, Now Change and Over the River and Through the Woods.
