First United Methodist Church-Santa Monica (Santa Monica, CA)
L.A.’s own acclaimed Verdi Chorus serves up a Faustian Feast, featuring selections from several famed operatic adaptations of Goethe’s powerful story. The tale of a man who makes a fateful bargain with the devil to obtain love and power has been turned into beautiful music by Hector Berlioz, Arrigo Boito, Jacques Offenbach and Charles Gounod, to be sung by a trio of fine soloists in the roles of Marguerite, Faust and the devil himself. Rebecca Sjöwall is an award-winning soprano, who’s appeared with the Arizona, West Bay and San Francisco Lyric Operas, as well as at Carnegie Hall. Accomplished concert artist and tenor Robert MacNeil has performed in several San Francisco and LA Opera productions, most recently in Lohengrin, and bass-baritone Dean Elzinga, is no stranger to the demon role, having sung Méphistophélès in Vienna and Offenbach’s Four Villains in Seattle and Memphis. Musical Director Anne Marie Ketchum leads the more than 40 gorgeous voices of the Verdi Chorus for these concert events.
