He said that his visit is only for a few hours to get a briefing from the officials and have a feeling of the situation before he gets back to Juba.

Upon arrival, the minister was received by Jonglei State Governor Koul Manyang Juuk and Lieutenant General Kuol Diem Kuol, the Operation restore peace in Jonglei Comamder.

Jonglei state is one of the volatile states in the Republic of South Sudan where ethnic groups in some counties have not realised peace since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005.

The commander of Operation and Restore peace in Jonglei State, Lt. Gen. Kuol Diem Kuol said they briefed the minister about their security situation as well as the political and humanitarian situations in the state.

This year South Sudan army has been helping in solving tribal conflicts to reduce cattle raiding, children abduction and creating peace among the local people.  

As peace was achieved in May this year the people of Jonglei state experienced some relief as cattle trade between Lou Nuer and Dinka Bor communities resumed.

The David Yau Yau led a rebellion from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and contested for the post as independent candidate which he lost to SPLM candidate Judy Jokongole in Gumuruk Boma constituency in Pibor County.

As disarmament forces were sent to 11 counties Jonglei since March and are still on the ground as has so far collected approximated 18,000 fire arms this year.
