It has been quite some time since she was last seen on the big screen. However, Geeta Basra was sure that whenever she would return in a film, it would be with a bang. This week, she has been seen again in 'lights, camera and action' mode with the item number 'Ghaziabad Ki Rani' in Zila Ghaziabad. However, contrary to popular perception, she decided not to get into the 'Munni' and 'Sheila' mode and instead wanted to carve a niche of her own.
"It's a full on 'dhinchaak' number that I have done for this film", says Geeta, who was earlier seen in films like The Train and Dil Diya Hai, both with Emraan Hashmi. "I was sure about one thing that even if I do just an item number in a film, instead of a full fledged role, it would have to be something special. When I heard this song, then I was convinced enough to do it. However, I also wanted to know that how would it be eventually choreographed. It couldn't have been run of the mill by any means."
Apparently, Geeta was apprehensive that the makers may just go ahead and shoot another 'Munni Badnaam' or 'Sheila Ki Jawaani'. Though she personally loves both the songs, she felt that the year gone by had seen so many imitations of the style and format as seen in 'Munnis' and 'Sheilas' of the world that it was about time to create something fresh and different.
"If you look at it, there has been a 'Jalebi Bai' (Double Dhamaal), 'Shalu Ke Thumke' (Bin Bulaaye Baraati), 'Chammak Challo Rani' (Miley Na Miley Hum) and many more with everyone from Mallika Sherawat to Shweta Tiwari joining the race. Just like Kareena Kapoor who decided against calling her 'Chammak Challo' as just another item number belonging to the mould of 'Sheila' and 'Munni', even Geeta checked with the makers about their strategy", says a friend of the actress.
This is when director Anand Kumar and choreographer Remo explained to her the concept of the song which is (obviously) set in Ghaziabad. While the song is as massy as it gets, what with the title itself reading 'Ghaziabad Ki Rani Hoon Main', Geeta too is being seen in a hot and sexy avtar.
"Yes, I enjoyed all the 'latka jhatka' and thankfully, it is visually quite different when compared to many other item numbers that we have seen in recent times", says Geeta, "It was fun to get back into the mould. Trust me; I realized how much I was really missing the song and dance routine only after I started dancing to the beats."
She isn't willing to comment on speculations around her personal life though. Even though a segment of media has already declared that she is marrying Harbhajan Singh later next year, Geeta begs off from the conversation. "Please, I have work related matters to talk about, so why not stick to that", she says.
Sure Geeta, point noted.
