Egyptian Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
Bob Hope and Bing Crosby’s Road series of films (also starring Dorothy Lamour) was hugely popular with filmgoers. Combining adventure, comedy, romance and music, these freewheeling comedies were characterized by minimal plots and an abundance of gags, ad-libbed by the actors. Road to Morocco, the third film in the series, finds Hope and Crosby as a pair of stowaways stranded in North Africa who fall under the amorous eyes of Princess Shalmar (Lamour) and invoke the ire of an Arabian sheik (Anthony Quinn). Road to Utopia casts the duo as turn-of-the-century vaudevillians who head for the Klondike when they get their hands on the map to a gold mine. The ever-charming Dorothy Lamour is the map’s rightful owner. The program begins with an illustrated presentation on the Road series from Maureen Solomon.
