p|m Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition of paintings by Meghan McKnight. McKnight’s newest paintings explore how imagination is sparked when trying to resolve a desire for order amidst chaotic change. Half the exhibition is comprised of pale monochromes where McKnight demonstrates deft ingenuity for creating textures; a dialogue amongst piped elements and unctuous pools interrupt ordered backgrounds. In another vein she toys with the intangible, upping the element of chance by pouring, pooling and sculpting paint. Each painterly application intuitively plays off of its predecessor resulting in compositions based on a progressive series of reactions. McKnight was born in Toronto in 1980 where she now works and lives. She is represented by p|m gallery in Toronto. Since 2004 she has had three solo shows and has exhibited with p|m gallery at international art fairs such as Mexico Arte Contemporaneo, Toronto International Art Fair, and Aqua Art Miami. In 2005 she was shortlisted for the RBC National Painting Competition. She was also featured in The Magenta Foundation’s book Carte Blanche Vol.2: Painting. Collections include the Granite Club, Telus, and the Donovan collection. The artist will be in attendance at the opening.
