Oxnard Performing Arts Center (Oxnard, CA)
Appearing in concert in Oxnard, guest conductor Maxim Eshkenazy picks up the baton for this Masterpiece Series performance by principal New West Symphony musicians of a trio of great works. Oboist Lara Wickes, bassoonist Duncan Massey, violinist Danielle Belen and cellist Mark Tanner open the concert with Seven Pieces for String Orchestra, by 20th century Bulgarian composer Pancho Vladigerov, best known for his prodigious piano cycles. Next up is Haydn’s famously upbeat, frisky, and even funny Sinfonia Concertante from 1792. For the fitting finale, they’ll take on the melodically grand and technically challenging Jupiter, Mozart’s last symphony.
