Theatre 40 at The Reuben Cordova Theatre (Beverly Hills, CA)

Norm Foster has often been called “Canada’s Neil Simon,” and you can understand why when you see one of his plays. Opening Night is the story of Jack and Ruth Tisdale, a couple who are going to the theater to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. It’s a dream come true for Ruth, but a pain for Jack, who’d rather be home watching the World Series. Meanwhile, things are not going well backstage. The director is trying to deal with the actors, never an easy task to begin with, and in the midst of it all his girlfriend wants to talk about “their relationship.” After the events both on and off the stage, the lives of all involved are irreparably altered.
