Location: Cabbagetown
The event of early summer! This self-guided tour brings visitors along the charming tree-lined streets of Cabbagetown – where most homes date from the late 1800s – and through quiet back lanes, to hidden alcoves of greenery. Visit ten (10) unique urban gardens from the quaint to the quirky. Most gardens can only be entered from pleasant back lanes which, at the turn of the 20th century, were used by delivery carts or wagons filled with ice, coal, bread, or milk. Many lanes were given intriguing names: Yen, Magic, Gordon Sinclair or Chipping Sparrow. Proud gardeners will be on site to answer questions about the creative use of small spaces, the challenges of urban wildlife, (raccoons, skunks, squirrels, coyotes, opossums, etc.) and choices of plants and other materials. But first and foremost, admire the fruit of their labour. A garden tour ticket costs $15:00. Tickets are sold at various outlets throughout the city and from our website using PayPal. For more information, go to www.cabbagetownpa.ca. The Hidden Garden and Private Spaces Garden Tour is a fundraiser for the Cabbagetown Preservation Association.
