Sundance Sunset Cinema (Los Angeles, CA)
See one of Outfest 2013’s many film screenings at the Sundance Sunset Cinemas. This recently renovated theater is one of nicest theaters in the city, with a lobby area designed for hanging out before the show, comfortable theater seating set-ups and gourmet food and beverages. They’ll be showing In Bloom, first-time filmmaker Chris Michael Birkmeier’s feature-length drama about the faltering relationship between two young gay men during a particularly tumultuous Chicago summer. There’s a serial killer stalking the streets of Chicago, but Kurt and Paul could care less, because they are in the prime of their lives, deeply in love and flush with cash thanks to Kurt’s pot-dealing business. But when Kurt is led astray by a sexy young customer, he finds himself walking a dangerous path that threatens to permanently ruin everything he and Paul have built, while placing himself in the elusive murderer’s path. Right out of the gate, Birkmeier establishes himself as a director to watch with this prickly and compulsively watchable twist on Blue Valentine and Weekend.
