Iran has slowed down its atomic plants to almost a halt, announced the United Nations officials this Thursday. Iran has slowed down the work on its atomic energy program since August. The report presented by the International Atomic Energy Agency stated that the installation of centrifuges at Irans uranium enrichment plants came to a standstill the same month that Hassan Rouhani was sworn the President. The work on nuclear reactor also slowed down. Iran still produces low-enriched uranium but at a small scale.
The Obama administration is optimistic about the deal on Irans nuclear program, as this report will prove to aid the talks in Geneva amongst the six world powers. The IAEA report suggests that Iran is slowly implementing the hold on nuclear activities demanded by the Western nations during the nuclear talks. The negotiations between Iran and the six world powers are scheduled to start next week on the 20th of November.
President Obama repeated his appeal to the congress to delay any consideration of further economic sanctions imposed on Iran, while the negotiations are still ongoing. ‘Let’s test how willing they are to actually resolve this diplomatically and peacefully,’ said the U.S. President at a news conference on Thursday. ‘We will have lost nothing if, at the end of the day, it turns out that they are not prepared to provide the international community the hard proof and assurances necessary for us to know that they’re not pursuing a nuclear weapon.’
