On Day 2 of the opening test clash, the game was surprisingly turned around when pacemen Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris combined to skittle England for 136 on Friday.
The Australian opening pair of David Warner and Chris Rogers compounded the misery for the tourists with an unbroken stand of 65 runs to increase Australia’s lead to 224 runs over England with Warner on 45 and Rogers on 15.
A dozen wickets fell on Friday after Australia resumed its first innings on the second morning at 273 for 8. Australia was all out for 295, with Brad Haddin last man out for 94 and Stuart Broad finishing with six wickets for England.
However, when English team came to crease for batting, they were coasting at 55 for 1 before Johnson and Harris embarked on two hours of massacre, including a slide of six wickets for nine runs in 58 balls in the middle session in which spinner Nathan Lyon narrowly missed a hat-trick.
