Residents of Richmond Hill housing co-op were completely shocked to witness a shooting in their parking lot on early Wednesday, which resulted in death of a man and woman, along with another seriously injured third man in life-threatening conditions.
One of the residents of the building, Vivian D., shared that she and her daughter heard 15 to 20 shots at around midnight and said that “I was scared. I thought it was either fireworks or gunshots.” She added that “and sure enough, soon after I heard the sirens.” Const. Andy Pattenden explained that York Regional Police arrived at the complex on Centre St. E, soon after the shots were heard at around midnight. He explained that officers found two unidentified men and a woman, all of whom were shot inside a car. Police claims that the woman was found dead at the time, while the other two men were rushed to a nearby hospital. One of the men passed away soon after arriving at the hospital, while the other remains in critical condition.
According to the information gathered by witnesses, Pattenden claims that investigators are looking for two suspects, as he alleged that “it does not appear to be a random act.” A police forensic team was at the site near Yonge St. and Major MacKenzie Dr. on Wednesday morning, as the parking lot was cordoned off with a yellow tape as the investigators collected evidence and the red car remained on scene.
